Snails Can Produce Electricity..!

We all would be familiar with this little creature which creeps so slowly and having a hard shell at its back often found in the gardens and on plants. Well, we Humans have finally figured out something positive from them as well other than creeping and amusing children.

Scientists at the Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York want to extract electricity from their blood after they have been implanted with biofuel cells. According to Evgeny Katz, the leading scientist of that team shared that the electricity is extracted from the glucose and oxygen in the snail’s blood. All they do is attach their electrodes to it and extract the power from it. This could be brought to a huge scale as the power generation likely from this source would be amazingly a new dimension.

People loving nature don’t get worried as according to scientist their would be no harm to these snails as they love to get feed and move. Now the question is, will there be farms of snails in coming future to extract energy out of their blood or will the scientist go for some huge snails breed and use them? According to Katz they would be probably preferring some bigger animals for their research in the future. Lets just hope for the best and wish them best of luck for their future researches on scaling out whole new dimension of electricity production.

Google has officially unveiled the next version of its popular Android mobile OS. Codenamed Jelly Bean, the new Android OS comes with a version number 4.1 – which suggests a few improvements here and there. Instead Android 4.1 packs a number of important and very handy improvements, which make Ice Cream Sandwich look a bit obsolete.

For one thing Android 4.1 is entirely about improvements, which made Google create the so-called project Butter. The next Android version focuses on performance improvements, mostly found in the user interface that now feels snappier in pretty much everything you do. This is achieved by making the vsync of the display run constantly at 60 frames per second, which makes the UI feel smooth and soft just like butter. In addition Android 4.1 even anticipates where your finger is and starts drawing from that point to make the UI appear even smoother.

Keyboard typing has also been improved and now features more accurate predictive input as well as an extended dictionary. Another new feature is offline Voice Typing, which means you don’t need a connection anymore to use the service and the performance will be affected no more by slow networks.

The enhancements have also touched the camera, the notifications and Google Search. Starting with the notification bar you get a more prominent looking clock and the bar now allows notifications from various apps like Music, Pulse and Gmail to be expanded – thus you no longer need to open the application to see what’s going on.

Photo taking has also been improved. Jelly Bean brings new UI gestures and now you can swipe sideways to get to the gallery. To delete images you don’t want all you have to do is swipe them off the screen.

Finally – Google Search, which got altered too. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean now supports natural language commands. Google Search now has Google Now too – which is a new function that shows you public transport listings, flight information and sports results.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be officially available in the middle of July this year.

Sources on the Internet have started a new rumor that claims the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display that will also be a bit narrower than the screen found in the first Galaxy Note.

The upcoming smartphone will be commercially available starting in October this year. It will be based on a dual-core 32 nm Exynos 5250 processor that will run at 2 GHz. The graphics subsystem will also be improved thanks to a more powerful chip that will allow higher screen resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels and provide support for 3D displays.

Other specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 include 1.5 GB of RAM, a rear 8 MP camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile smartphone OS.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a pretty strong case in its quest to get the “Smartphone of the Year” award, but surprisingly enough the tech masterpiece will soon be challenged by another smartphone not produced by a big name in this industry!

The Galaxy S3 challenger hails from another Korean company – Pantech. The company has created the so-called Vega S5 Android smartphone that not only supports LTE but also comes with a larger 5-inch 720 x 1280 pixel resolution IPS display (the S3 has a 4.8-inch screen). The Vega S5 also comes with “Zero Bezel” technology that makes the chassis narrower and thanks to it the Vega S5 sports a frame that is thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S3. The Pantech Vega S5 is just 6.89 mm thick compared to Galaxy S3’s 8.6 mm of thickness. On top of all this the Vega S5 has a 13 MP camera too. A Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon MSM8960 processor powers all this hardware.

Unfortunately the Pantech Vega S5 will be rather expensive. At around 800 USD the smartphone won’t be exactly cheap. Even worse – right now the chances of finding it outside Korea are close to zero because the smartphone is an exclusive offer by Korean mobile operator SK Telecom. But who knows – maybe Pantech will release it worldwide later on.

The South Korean tech giant Samsung has introduced its latest QWERTY smartphone – the Galaxy Chat. The novelty measures just 118 x 59 x 117 mm and runs Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich.

Turning to the hardware inside the Galaxy Chat has a 3-inch LCD QVGA display that works at 240 x 320 pixels. Storage capacity reaches 4 GB and there’s a microSD card slot in case you need more memory. The Chat also comes with a 2 MP rear camera, USB 2.0 support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

As to the software the latest Samsung QWERTY smartphone offers the Samsung TouchWiz user interface as well as Quick Office and S Planner – an application that helps you plan your day and time.
