Nokia's Lumia 800 to get WiFi tethering by the end of the week..

It has become apparent via a meeting between carrier H3G and Nokia in Milan, Italy that the Finnish handset maker is planning to provide internet tethering support on its Lumia 800 series devices by means of a software update before the month is out.

Internet sharing was possible out of the box on Nokia's Lumia 610 and 900 smartphones and it's been said that the feature will be made available on the Lumia 710 in the near future as well.

In relative news, as a reminder there is a new firmware update on the horizon for Lumia 710 and 800 phones, build 12070 promising better battery life and many other improvements.

Microsoft to launch $100 Xbox Lite before next-gen console..

Microsoft will launch a $100 Xbox Lite next year before releasing its next-generation console sometime afterwards, according to leaked plans.

 

A well-known leaker of Microsoft plans, a user who goes by the name MS Nerd, shared that the Xbox Lite, previously codenamed Xbox Loop, will feature an ARM processor, will be significantly cheaper than existing models, and will launch in late 2013, possibly just in time for the Christmas shopping season.

 

It's not exactly clear what will be axed from the Lite version to make it so cheap, as it will run games, media apps and will work with the Kinect. Its graphics power might be toned down or Microsoft might just be taking a big hit on its profits from it to make it more affordable.

 

 

The next-generation Xbox, codenamed Xbox Next, which suggests a potential deviation from the expected name of Xbox 720, will launch some time after the Xbox Lite, but if the Lite launches in late 2013 it means we might not see the Next until 2014 or possibly later, giving Nintendo a further time advantage on its launch of the Wii U this year.

 

A new version of the Kinect is also expected to launch in 2015, which could coincide with the release of the new console. This would give Microsoft enough time to develop new features to help it steal the top slot form Nintendo, or at least keep it in second place ahead of Sony's next PlayStation.

 

Of course, until Microsoft or another trustworthy source validates this rumour we cannot take it for granted that this is what will happen. It could even be an elaborate ruse to keep Microsoft's real Xbox 720 plans under wraps, such as speculations that it will feature a tablet controller, no disc drive, and a projector gaming helmet.

Microsoft and Nokia to invest 18 million Euro in mobile app development...

Microsoft and Nokia have agreed to invest up to €18 million in app development for the Windows Phone platform.

 

The duo launched the AppCampus program at Aalto University in Finland, which will run for the next three years, encouraging students to develop apps for both Windows Phone, Symbian and Series 40, though the primary focus will likely be on Microsoft's operating system.

 

“AppCampus offers an unprecedented opportunity for entrepreneurs to put their ideas into practice and create world-class mobile products,” said Klaus Holse, president of Microsoft Western Europe. “We want to turn a new leaf in the mobile industry and foster Finland’s role as a center of excellence for mobile technology. Such investment into early-stage concepts has rarely been seen in this sector, and this demonstrates how highly both Nokia and Microsoft value Finnish mobile expertise.”

 

 

Apps are key to the success of a mobile operating system and one of the primary reasons people choose Apple devices over those of rivals, due to the extensive library of apps available. Android is quickly catching up, but Windows Phone is lagging behind considerably.

 

The problem for Microsoft, and Nokia as the primary phone manufacturer of Windows Phone devices, is that developers are reluctant to invest the time and money in creating an app for Windows Phone, as the rewards  are currently limited compared to the two dominant platforms. In order to make it more rewarding it needs apps to attract customers, making the situation a viscious cycle, with the only solution being active investment from Microsoft and Nokia, which the duo have finally decided to do.

NEC launches new business tablet

NEC has launched a new business-oriented tablet – the VersaPro VZ – that will initially sell in Japan only.

The new digital device features a 12.1-inch display at 1024×768 pixel resolution and is based on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional. Inside the user will find a dual-core Intel Celeron 857 processor, running at 1.2 GHz and also featuring a built-in graphics chip. This Celeron processor sports high performance, low TDP and low energy consumption.

The new NEC VersaPro VZ also features 2 GB of RAM memory and instead of a traditional SSD or a hard drive, the device stores data onto flash memory that can be up to 64 GB depending on model. It is not clear, however, if the flash memory can be upgraded.

The business tablet also comes with USB ports, built-in audio, connectivity ports and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. Weighing 950 grams, the tablet comes with a stylus and includes a Japanese character recognition software. The battery capacity is unknown.

The NEC VersaPro VZ will debut on the Japanese market in May this year with possible market appearance around the world later on.

The luxury smartphone maker Gresso has prepared a new offering for all those who value luxury and functionality. The new Gresso Regal Black smartphone is an exclusive offer that features a hand-polished body and an innovative geometry.

Measuring 121 mm x 46 mm x 12 mm the new smartphone weighs approximately 130 grams. On the outside the Regal Black is very elegant, being a one-piece detail, thanks to the high-precision equipment performance that allowed the designers to cut the complicated frame geometry. Solid titanium slab has been used as the main material, and no compromises were allowed between the quality and the costs in manufacturing the Regal Black phone. The finished phone case has only 9 % of the original metal work-piece, and the phone case got hand polished before its covering in black PVD-surface, giving extra protection. Both front and back parts of the chassis are made of tempered mineral glass. Gresso took advantage of exclusive tinting technology, which was especially created for the Regal series phones.

Inside the new Gresso Regal Black features an 860 mAh lithium-ion battery, which is supposed to provide talk time of up to 5.4 hours while stand-by time is around 300 hours. The Regal Black runs the Symbian S40 mobile platform, which was used in the Nokia Vertu luxury smartphones. The flip side of the royal-looking mobile phone also shows off a 2MP camera.

With just 333 phones made, Gresso will offer the Regal Black luxury smartphone at authorized resellers only and the phone will cost no less than 5000 USD. The new smartphone is out next month.

LG Lucid 4G specifications confirmed..

The Korean electronics giant LG has prepared a new smartphone – the LG Lucid 4G – that will soon debut worldwide. As the name suggest the new LG Lucid features 4G LTE support.

Rumors about the new device have been around for a while but the gadget specs have now been officially confirmed. In the USA the new smartphone will be sold and served by Verizon. The LG Lucid 4G will feature a dual-core processor, running at 1.2 GHz, a 4-inch display made out of the so called Gorilla Glass and 8 GB of built-in memory. Unfortunately there’s no information about the existence of a microSD slot that can provide upgrade capabilities.

The upcoming LG Lucid 4G smartphone will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will be powered by a 1700 mAh battery. Being a 4G LTE smartphone, the new mobile device can also be used as a mobile hotspot.

In the USA the phone will debut on March 29 and will cost up to 200 USD.

Sony unveils Xperia neo L smartphone

Sony has announced a yet new Xperia smartphone, this time named Xperia neo L. The Sony neo L is a mid-range device that is based on the neo V and is destined for the Chinese market.

Inside the new Xperia neo L smartphone packs a 1 GHz single-core Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 205 graphics chip and 512 MB of RAM, while on the outside the neo L arrives with a 4-inch LCD display with 480×854 pixel resolution.

Additionally, the new Xperia neo L comes with a 5 MP rear camera, that can also shoot 720p videos, while a VGA front-facing camera enables video calling.

On the outside the Xperia neo L is very similar to the neo V but it also borrows some design elements from the Xperia PLAY without the PlayStation certified joypad. At 120.0 x 61.0 x 12.8 mm, the neo L is slightly longer, but slimmer than the neo V.

Commercial availability and pricing are unknown at the moment. The new Xperia neo L may also hit markets in other countries but this is still to be confirmed.

Panasonic Eluga waterproof smartphon

Panasonic has prepared a new waterproof smartphone that will see the light of day on March 29 this year in Japan.

The new Panasonic Eluga smartphone adheres to the new tendency of offering sturdy smartphones that are resistant to dust, water, scratches and shock. This is why Panasonic claims its new offering is waterproof and dust resistant, although this still has to be proven.

The Panasonic Eluga was first unveiled at the MWC last month. The new smartphone boasts a 4.3-inch OLED display with 960×540 pixel resolution, measures 7.8 mm thin and weighs 103 grams. Inside the phone is powered by a 1 GHz TI OMAP processor and has 16 GB of memory along with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. There’s also an 8 MP camera without flash. Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread the device will be upgraded to Android 4.0 in Q2 2012.

The new phone is available now in the UK for a price of 399 British pounds. The Panasonic Eluga will also be launched in other European countries later this year.

'Agent Vinod' collects Rs.10 crore on opening day

Saif Ali Khan's home production "Agent Vinod" has earned Rs.10 crore on the first day, and is the actor's biggest solo opening so far.

Made at a budget of Rs.50 crore, the film has been shot in Morocco, Russia and Latvia.

"Saif Ali Khan has grown as an actor and also grown as a box-office power. The number of screens first decide the craze for the film and the first day business is an indicator of its strength at the box office," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

"The massive figures only go to show that Saif has a rare combination of talent and box office pull," added Adarsh.

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, the spy thriller also features Kareena Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Ram Kapoor. While it is produced under Saif's "Illuminati Films" banner, Eros International has distributed it.

Saif says it was the best time to release a film like "Agent Vinod".

"The concept should appeal to people... it's got an exciting plot... The style, the narrative - the strength of the story and its 'Tin Tin' qualities is the USP of 'Agent Vinod'. Times have changed and so have our movies. This is the right time for 'Agent Vinod'," said Saif, who feels he has challenged himself with a film like this.

"I have challenged myself physically in roles before. One such role was of Langda Tyagi in 'Omkara'. In 'Agent Vinod', I had to be fit, very fit. I had to train hard. It was a gruelling schedule to do action. It is very demanding. I have a lot of respect for action heroes because I've got to know what it takes to be one," he added.

The theatre owners are happy with the first day response to the film and hope that it will sustain in the coming weeks.

"The response to the film has been good. We have witnessed an occupancy of about 85 percent. The action and stunts of the film are quite appealing to the youngsters," Gautam Datta, of PVR Pvt Ltd said

Producer Amit Mehra speaks on Ram Charan's Zanjeer

 I will discuss the "Zanjeer" remake script with Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar once it's ready, says first-time producer Amit Mehra, adding that they bought the rights of the film. Talks are on with Priyanka Chopra to play the female lead in the film to go on floors next month.

"Yes, we have bought the rights of 'Zanjeer' in January 2012. I am going to meet Javed Akhtar and Salim sir soon. I want their blessings before I start the film," Amit said.

Amit is the son of Prakash Mehra, who had produced and directed the original "Zanjeer". Released in 1973, the film was Amitabh Bachchan's first blockbuster and established him as the 'angry young man' of the Hindi cinema.

The action thriller's screenplay and dialogues were co-written by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan.

At an event in Patna, Javed Akhtar complained that the producers didn't consult them before going ahead with the remake plans of "Zanjeer" and he also said that for any change in the original screenplay, the consent of the writer should be taken.

When told about it, Amit said: "This is my first film as a producer. However, the film will be more or less the same as that of the original, but in a more modernised way. Dialogues play a very important role in films. We are still working on the script. I will discuss the script with Salim sir and Javed Akhtar once it's ready."

"We will start shooting from next month here itself. The entire film will be shot in Mumbai," he added.

Telugu actor Ram Charan has been finalised to step into Big B's role, while Priyanka is being considered to reprise Jaya Bachchan's role in the modern version of the movie.

"We have officially signed Ram Charan as the hero of the film. We are in talks with Priyanka Chopra as the leading lady. However, nothing has been finalised till now. Hopefully, we will soon make an official announcement," said Amit.

He has roped in Apoorva Lakhia to direct the movie.

When asked about the remake and copyright issues, Lakhia said: "I am directing the film. We will start the shooting from April. I am not the right person to comment anything right now. Producer Amit Mehra is be the right person."
