7" Nexus tablet by Asus reportedly confirmed

Rumors of the mythical Google Nexus tablet are intensifying with each passing day and lately they have almost all been pointing in one direction – a 7″ slate, which will be manufactured by Asus.





The new rumors have it that Asus has agreed to cancel its $250 Tegra 3 powered MeMo 370T slate, which was announced at CES and turn it into the next Google slate instead.

What’s particularly impressive is that Google aims to deliver the tablet at an even lower price point than the MeMo 370T was supposed to target – the Mountain View guys want their first slate to cost the hard to believe $149.

Sadly, the insider source also claims that the Tegra 3 chipset had to be axed for the price reduction to be achieved. We are not quite sure how we feel about this, though – why not release the $250 Tegra 3 Asus and the cheaper, but less powerful Nexus tablet. That one everyone will have the freedom to pick whatever they want.

The Google Nexus tablet is expected to be announced at the CTIA Wireless expo, beginning on May 8 in New Orleans. We’ll be on the lookout for more information about it until then.

Google Play combines Market, Books, Music and Videos

Android took a major step today as Google unified it's Google Music, Google Videos, Google Books and Android Market services into one. The new one-stop store goes by Google Play. 
 
Google Play is Google's effort to put all of its downloadable content, be it apps, movies, music or eBooks and make it easily accessible using Cloud syncing. This would allow you to easily get any music tracks, videos and eBooks you purchase to all of your Android devices, just like with the apps from the Android Market so far. 
To make the switch from Android Market to Google Play, the search giant will release an update for the Android Market app on devices running Android 2.2 or later over the coming days. So, from now on, it's officially Google Play, Google Play Music, Google Play Books and Google Play Movies. 
How much music and videos, you ask? The company says that you can store up to 20,000 of your own songs plus any of the millions available for purchase in the Google Play itself. And with the app and video count growing literally by the minute, you can be sure that Google will certainly target global market dominance. 
And to make sure it attracts more and more users, Google Play will be celebrating its launch by slashing prices on a ton of applications, books, music and movies. Sadly, the full power of Google Play will only be available in the United States at launch, while the rest of the world will have to have to sit on the sideline, looking enviously.

Chrome Is Now King Of Browsers .....

It has finally happened! Internet Explorer and all of its versions got kicked out of their cozy throne as the world’s most popular browser by the new kid on the browser block – Google Chrome. 

Sadly, this happened only for a brief day. According to StatCounter’s data, Chrome’s victory only lasted 24 hours, on March 18 and IE has claimed its old position on the top spot since then.


However, Chrome’s dominance wasn’t definitive. At the end of its prime day, it took 32.71% of all browser usage, with Internet Explorer breathing in its neck at 32.5%. Firefox took its predictable third place at 24.81%, while Safari and Opera stayed at their usual fourth and fifth places respectively.





Chrome has only been available for a couple of years now, so this is a big score for Google, albeit the short span of the victory. It’s interesting to see how things will unfold as the time goes by, but one thing is certain – IE, your days are counted.
